BIOGRAPHY

Charles McConnell serves as the Executive Director of Carbon Management and Energy Sustainability at the University of Houston, where he oversees $20M+ in annual research portfolios. He brings nearly five decades of experience across carbon management, industrial gases, and CCUS.

Charles previously served as the Senate-confirmed Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy at the US Department of Energy, where he coined the term "CCUS" and managed $3B+ in Recovery Act-funded projects. His career also spans senior leadership roles at Praxair, Battelle, and Rice University.
